The Barbaric Black Friday

Black Friday is the consumerists’ post-Thanksgiving tradition. The holiday of Thanksgiving is peaceful tradition and cultural celebration; giving thanks and blessing the harvest. The Black Friday Bonanza is set the Day after the thanksgiving festivities, from the traditional Thanksgiving family meal, to the beautiful and magical Macy’s Parade.
Black Friday has gained its name due all stores involved, coming into the black rather than red side of their finances. Whilst this holiday brings joy and a four day weekend, it also signifies the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, with sales, discounts and offers galore. Those who have not heard of the black Friday before have thought the idea of this day is rather nice, and enables people to purchase Christmas gifts at a lower rate.

Whilst this is predominantly an American consumerist tradition, the Black Friday phenomenon has arrived into the United Kingdom, with major retailers offering a minimum of 10% off and a number of online shops are offering free delivery. Despite the fact that the United Kingdom doesn’t celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving, the Black Friday marketing scheme appears to have reached the hearts of the directors and CEO’s of the large enterprises. Christmas has clearly come early for Britain’s this year, right? Raising Britain’s economy and enabling individuals to get a bargain before Christmas, what a dream come true!

Unfortunately with these brilliant bargains follows a rather bleak atmosphere, behaviour of individuals participating within this advantageous day become rather sinister. Waking this morning I visited my usual daily social media sites, upon which I found videos of consumers, news stories and was appalled by the British publics’ behaviour and greed. In stores within the UK people are often seen queuing on sales days to take the first pick, ‘early bird catches the worm’. Never have I seen before the behaviour upon these videos, other than in fictional films, designer Sample Sales or American news feeds. People within the U.K, today have been greedy, selfish and insensitive, with men, women, pregnant and elderly, pushed, shoved, thrown to the floor and have burst into fights, with individuals being taken to hospital, and numerous stores being closed by Police.

Caution! Videos and Links may be distressing to certain individuals! Most violence is not visible but must be advised that videos do contain violence! Please do Not watch if you are not comfortable, thank you.

DARK SIDE OF BLACK FRIDAY #BBCtrending - BBC NEWS

I am by no means condemning all of the British public, and I do believe most of the British public can be rather peaceful, respectful and polite shoppers. If you are planning or have been shopping today please remember to be careful, whilst you may have good intentions to brows the bargains others may not be so innocent and participate in ruthlessness, no matter the consequences, to get their discounted goods. I’m just glad I didn’t leave my grocery shop till today and did it earlier in the week.

Personally I’d rather not camp out in the cold and push and shove to my bargain, but wrap up warm and browse my bargains online. It is important to remember the online versions of these sales are also available. With online shopping on Black Friday there is less chance of being bruised and battered; from the humans whose savage instincts overcome them upon this day, however there is also chance of queues and web-page crashes. This can be frustrating but is understandable that not all websites will have a big enough server to enable all shoppers’ access at once. If you wish to participate in these sales,

I’d advise visiting the online webpage before venturing out to the store. Certain stores allow you to reserve an item or different products beforehand, this can be very advantageous, and I would advise anyone to do this the day before a big sale. Be patient, and remember queues will happen either way. Try and remain calm, if your item is gone, or out of stock, it is not the staff or a different customers fault, they may be alternative or a different store you can visit. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this article, and are careful with your shopping tactics and budgets this Black Friday and discounted weekend.

 Much loves x
