The tradition of our modern Advent Calendar dates back to the early 1900s. Originally Advent is a 4 week period which begins on the Sunday nearest to St Andrews day (Nov 30) and actually dates back to the 4th Century. The time of Advent was celebrated for Converts to prepare for their baptisms, Nowadays the time of Advent is more commonly associated with the countdown to Christmas.
In The past few years, the commercialized Western World has taken the modest picture/chocolate advent calendar a few steps further, and this year you can get pretty much anything in a Christmas Calendar. From sweet treats to alcohol, even Greggs has an Advent Calendar out this year, guys, if you can think of it, it's probably in an Advent Calendar! My favorite of the Advent Calendars available this year (being the MakeUp Junkie that I am) has to be the Beauty Calendars. This being said, some definitely better value than others, If a calendar has less than 24 doors, it should really just be called a gift set, and have you ever considered that you may be paying more for your smaller samples in a festive packaging than buying the items outright?

Contains 23 Beauty favorites from the Technic collection and props to pose with. So, you get a full 24 items for your pennies. At £12 this is the cheapest advent Calendar in this post, it's a fab gift idea for any young ones taking their first steps with make-up on a budget.

Makeup Revolution has an impressive Calendar this year! Whilst this Cruelty-Free Drugstore brand may not be well known, it's definitely worth checking out, they are surprisingly good quality product and packaging for a budget price. Again, here there is the 24 cosmetics: 6 highlighters, 1 bronzer, 6 lipsticks, 1 eyeshadow primer, 1 full sized eye palette, 2 strobe balms, a travel mirror and 4 make-up brushes all for £30. The full-size palette is definitely a bonus here!

Sleek is another Cruelty-Free Drugstore brand I love and use, this calendar is rather similar in quality and packaging to the Makeup Revolution Beauty Advent Calendar (above). So what's the difference? Whilst it doesn't have a full-sized palette it does contain: 4 lip Creams, 4 Lip pencils, 3 eye Pencils, 2 eyeliner, Mascara, Blush, Lipstick, 4 Nail Varnishes and 2 Make-up brushes. This Beauty Advent Calendar covers all your make-up bag essentials.

The Body Shop is probably the most well known for its Cruelty-Free Beliefs and fight to end animal testing! It's also a brand with good quality products, you will often find The Body Shop items in my monthly favorites, or essentials! Their products have a varying price point, with some items fitting within a budget range whereas others can be on a more Luxury end of the scale. They have done the same with their Calendars with

The 25 days Ultimate Advent Calendar which will set you back £99 (worth 214). All are fantastic value for money and feature some very popular products inside, with both the 25-day calendars turning into board games after all the doors have been opened, perfect for any board-game loving beauty junkie.

Bare Minerals is probably as luxury as I go when it comes to Make-up. I was surprised almost shocked when I saw the price of this Calendar. For anyone who knows Bare-Minerals, they know that a couple of items could set you back £70 let alone 24! The Box of Wonders Advent Calendar is not only perfect to fill up the backup bag with all your essentials and classic pieces, it's also a brilliant way to test out some products you may not have considered. From lips, to eyes, to faces, to skincare, they've got you covered and even throw in a notepad and pen.
