#JoinIn | Blogmas

Have you heard of the #joinin campaign?

It's a very important hashtag that has helped so many different people from all different walks of life. You can find it trending on social media over the festive holidays but have you ever stopped to find out what it's about?

Sarah Millican has made it her mission to alleviate loneliness over Christmas. The Comedian started her campaign 6 years ago, she says she started the campaign because "I'm a big softie and I couldn't bare people being alone.". She has stated time and time again that this campaign is for absolutely anyone who feels alone in any type of way over Christmas. Not for those who choose to be alone and are happy that way but for those "who don't choose to be alone, but who are, for some reason, on their tod/bob/lonesome. Be it because they have no family, are estranged from their family, it's not their turn to have the kids, even just that their partner is at work. Alone and would rather not be. This is who #joinin is for.".

I have known about this campaign for years and actually shed a tear or two when I discovered Sarah's movement. This is a beautifully self-less way to connect people with each other and demonstrates the positivity that can come from social media. Srah spends time away from her Christmas day festivities to talk to people and others have followed suit, volunteering their time on Christmas day to chat to those who find themselves alone. This is a beautiful gift, something so simple yet rewarding.

People have made friendships through this campaign, have helped each other with their mental health (you can be surrounded by family members but still feel alone or isolated) and most importantly has made someones Christmas day, just by having someone to chat to.

I absolutely love the #Joinin Campaign and feel it should have much more recognition that it does, so please spread the word. You don't have to give up any of your time over the holidays but if you find yourself mind-numbingly scrolling through social media and not really knowing why; check out the #joinin campaign, it's 7characters to type: #joinin. You could make someones day and help someone feel less alone. If you feel like this isn't for you or maybe you don't have social media, you could still spread the word, tell people via word of mouth, post a status or tweet, or even share this blog post.

I will be taking some time out of my Christmas day and will be supporting this campaign and the people who use it. I just really wanted to give this campaign the recognition it deserves, whilst my blog may only be little, hopefully it will have a bit of a ripple effect.

Thank you for Reading,
Remember to Come Back Tomorrow for the Last Post on the Blogmas Calendar.
