Try Something New
Hey there Pals,
If you remember my new year's resolutions, well done because I don't. No, seriously though, well done if you do remember all of them. I will be focusing on one of them in particular today. Try Something New!
So, my aim is to try something new every month, I will be trying something new to eat, drink, and trying a new activity (when I say 'new' this just means that I have never done it before).
This month (January, for those of you not following) I have decided to drink peanut butter hot
chocolate, eat ginger chocolate and try knitting. Heres How it went:
Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate
I have been of herbal teas for a few years and I'm also becoming a fan of flavoured hot chocolates too. This year in my presents from Santa I got a tub of Peanut Butter flavoured Hot Chocolate. I have never in my life tried this flavour hot chocolate before and really wasn't sure how this was going to taste. I was either going to feel like I was swimming in Reese's pieces dream or immediately realise my bad decision and wash it down the sink. Despite my initial apprehension and irrational anxiety, I decided to taste the drink anyway.Thank you Whittard of Chelsea for somehow producing another of my favourite flavours of hot chocolate, because I am once again in love. I kid you not, this is what chocolate and peanut butter dreams are made of. I feel like I'm drinking a giant Reese's piece right now, and I'm so happy. This is such a good combo, and I'm so thankful for this. A brilliant Christmas present from Santa that I will enjoy multiple times throughout this winter. Oh, I can just imagine myself curled up inside with a good book and a mug of this, on a cold and stormy day, lush. Massive thumbs up from me, if you're a fan of any peanut flavour hot chocolate this is a must for you!!
Ginger Chocolate
Green and Black's are one of my favourite brands of chocolate, and for Christmas, I got the tasting collection (a box of mini bars of their different flavours.) I thought this was such a good gift as not only is it my fave chocolate but it's also getting me to try new things. I like ginger in meals and herbal teas and I'm a big chocolate fan so I thought this would be a win-win.I was wrong. I was so wrong. This is a flavour of chocolate I will never opt for gain. Don't get me wrong the chocolate itself is sooo yum but the ginger is little chunks of well ginger. Actual chunks, It's too much ginger. It's literally deiced ginger in a chocolate bar. I'm sure if you're getting this but I am not a fan. It's not appealing and I honeslty felt nauseous after I ate this. It's a thumbs down for me on this one.
Knitting
This activity was suggested to me by my sibling, who upon arriving home for the Christmas period showed me the scarf she had been knitting (a talent we never knew she had). The scarf she had started actually looked really well made and she was reciting all the pros of this mindful activity until I declared that this would be my 'New Activity' for January. I set off to Poundland and bought a ball of yarn and pair of knitting needles for £2. (officially the cheapest activity I have done yet.) Now, I started a week after my sister had left and so I reverted back to a YouTube tutorial to help me remember what my sister had mentioned. ('Sheep and Stich' How to Knit.... is the tutorial I used.) After a few failed attempts at casting on, I soon got the hang of the Knit Stitch and found myself finding a good pace and rhythm.Despite my dog being slightly jealous that I'm devoting my time to something else, this is, in fact, a very therapeutic activity. It's not the best scarf anyone has ever made but it's the first scarf I've ever knitted and it looks pretty good to me. Sure It has a few holes here and there, but I've learned how to correct a lot of knitting mistakes already. This is a hobby I will definitely keep up, I may never have to buy a scarf again! There is a reason why millions of people knit around the world and it's very therapeutic and meditative, you can make accessories, clothes, and even toys. Knitting is not just for senior citizens, so instead of rolling your eyes next time you see your nan's balls of yarn, why not sit down and learn a thing or two. A mahoussive thumbs up from me.
