Try Something New #2
Hey Chums,
Just to refresh your memory last month I tried 3 new things, a drink, food and an activity. To help stick to my new year's goals I've decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and try something new every month. When I say 'new' I mean that it will be my first time eating, drinking, or trying out an activity.
I got a little stuck for ideas after January, people suggested I try another different flavoured chocolate but I decided that wasn't reaching far enough. I had a good look round different supermarkets and whole food stores and stocked up on lots of different ideas. This month I decided to try Ginger Beer, Kiwi Berries and Learn to code for the first time.
Ginger Beer
I have seen the use of ginger beer in movies, and read about it in books, an olden time treat to have with afternoon tea in summer, or the perfect accompaniment to sandwiches on a picnic. I've often wondered what ginger beer tasted like, I've only ever seen in once or twice in shops and I don't remember ever having a taste. This was my chance to finally have a taste to associate with Ginger Beer.
This could go one of two ways, I absolutely love it and it becomes my new favourite drink, a perfect replacement of beer for the girl who doesn't drink or it would go down like a lead balloon and make me feel a little nauseous like the ginger chocolate last week. The thought of the chocolate bar almost stopped me from pouring myself a glass.
At first, the taste was sweet and a little fizzier than I expected. I quite enjoyed the first few sips, it was light refreshing with a little kick of flavour. Unfortanelty as I started to drink more it became rather tangy and a little spicy on the tounge. Chilli falvoured popping candy anyone? By the end of the glass I had had enough, I was no longer a fan of ginger beer and already felt slightly nauseas. I was not expecting this outcome after the initial taste. Ginger Beer is definitley a sipping drink to be consumed in moderation. Unfortunately it's not been added to my shopping list. It's a thumbs down on this one. Rating: 1/5
Kiwi Berries
Whilst searching in the fruit section of waitrose for some foods I'd never tried before I came across Kiwi Berries! I had never come across the little green balls before, and initially thought they were a random berry form Kiwi, in New Zeland and decided to pick them up. If I had read the packet properly instore I would have seen the the berries were infact imported from Chile.
The assistant informed me that they are ripe once they have darkened and gained some wrinkles, they can go off quickly after so it's important to consume as soon as they're ripe. It had never dawned on me to ask what they were, just how to eat them. I followed the assistants instructions and was amazed to find they tasted just like a normal Kiwi fruit. It was a lightbulb momment that I am slightly ashamed of. Kiwi Berries are Kiwi fruit in berry form, they're just smaller and cuter, which means all the goodness of the kiwi without the fuzzy skin. I am a big fan of kiwi fruit and Kiwi berries are no different. Rating: 3/5

Mini Moo Mint Bar
I was recomended to try this little luxury chocolate bar by Farah (@farahpopxo) on Twitter. Aldready a fan of the bunnycomb bars, from Moo Free Chocolates, I was eager to try this little bar. As always moo free chocolates did not dissapoint, the refreshing taste of mint in the chococlate was not overpowering nor in some rediculous jam/jelly/cream form. If you like after eights but wish they were dairy free with a little less mint you will also love these! All Moo Free Chocolates are vegan, they're also soya, dairy, and gluten free. Rating: 5/5
Free Code Camp
Despite February being a little warmer and cheerier, I knew I had to find an activity that would I could happily do in or outdoors, weather depending. When having a blog you can three things, code your own site, get someone to code your site, or use a template. So far I have always used or bought templates, it's been easier than trying to decifer the Html code and it's meaning. I have learned little css coding to add widgets such as an my instagram feed and drop down menus.
After doing a bit of digging online I came across Free Code Camp, an online site that teaches you the basics in coding and helps you improve your skills through completing tasks and projects. You start off with demo tasks and can later create your own webpae, join and help charities or local buisness' on projects. It's all about giving back to the community which is a simple but brilliant concept. After starting the DemoCoding I soon learned that basic coding is a lot simpler than I initially thought. They say that coding is the languange of the future and I honestly cannot wait to learn more. Rating: 4/5
Have you tried anything new this month that has taken you out of your comfort zone? Why not try something new for next month? If you have a hobby or food/drink you love, let me know and I'll see if I can try it too!
Thanks for reading
