Try Something New #4
Hey Chums,
Just to refresh your memory, every month I am trying, eating and drinking something new, to help me complete one of my 'New Years Resolutions'. I've been stepping out of my foodie comfort zone and trying some creative activities. When I say 'New'I simply mean that I've never done/tried it before.
April, the month of the early heatwave, thanks to a little pocket of air that came up from Africa. Paddling pools, ice creams, crazy drivers and sunburns. This month I twist my tastebuds around Candy Kittens, dissolvable vitamins and try to fold some paper into animal shapes. What have you tried this month?
Blueberry Candy Kittens
I've wanted to try Candy Kitten's gourmet sweets for a while now, but I've always been put off by the price tag. As soon as a spotted the bags of goodies on offer in Waitrose I nabbed a bag of the shelf and popped it in my shopping basket. I decided to go for Blueberry Bliss because you don't usually get sweets in a blueberry flavour and blueberries are one of my favourite fruit/ flavourings. The New Vegan Recipe also means they're 100% dairy free! (Music to my ears) These sweets are delicious!
The kitten shaped candy is surprisingly a little sour, they are rich in flavour and juicy, and ever so moreish. If you're not careful you might end up finishing a packet once you've opened them. I personally found the flavour so rich I was able to manage 3 to 4 at a time and found the bag lasted longer than an ordinary bag of sweets. As much as I love this luxury candy and cannot wait to try the 4 flavours (Sour Watermelon, Eton Mess, Peach Fizz, Wild Strawberry) Candy Kittens will have to remain a one-off treat whilst on a budget.

It's important to check with your doctor or dietitian before taking any supplements. My dietitian has recommended I take Vitamin b, which I do every morning. However this month I've been ill and have only been able to swallow soft foods in small mouthfuls. The tablets I would usually take are huge, so I needed a way to get it down me without feeling like I'm swallowing a pebble. The taste is a tangy orange flavour, which reminded me a little of the orange flavour medicine I used to have when younger. Anyone have this or was it just me? I thought I was going to have to hold my nose whilst drinking this or that I'd be left with a horrible after-taste but I was pleasantly surprised. At the end of the day it does the job it's supposed to, I'm able to swallow it and it doesn't taste too bad. Rating 4.5/5
Origami
The only time I've been crafty with paper is for scrapbooking, tic tac toe, maths class or the 'how many times can you fold a piece of paper challenge' (oh the riveting childhoods we had). Origami is not as therapeutic as people claim it to be, in fact, there were many times I found it frustrating (whilst trying to make the dinosaurs), if the paper hadn't folded the correct way or if I didn't understand the tutorial. There are some very simple designs that are brilliant to start off with (the butterfly) and then work your way up to more complex designs (the elephants). Me being well me, I decided to start with a classic (the crane) and then launch myself into more complex designs, Whilst I mastered the crane early on, I still can't get my dinosaurs to stand properly. Origami is a lot of fun, and it's satisfying to have something to show for your efforts, this being said it does require more concentration than I anticipated. I used simple youtube tutorials and found those with audio description and visual aids much easier to follow. My favourite origami animal is the elephant, and I'm so happy I was able to make them without too many mistakes. Rating: 3.5/5
