Favourite Christmas Adverts | Blogmas 2017
'M&S Presents: Paddington Bear and the Christmas Visitor'
If indeed you did read Blogmas Day 3 you will already know that 'M&S Presents: Paddington Bear and The Christmas Visitor' is my favourite Christmas ad of 2017. This beautiful little advert that combines a few of my favourite childhood stories has also made its way into my Top 5.
Monty the Penguin
The first in of my John Lewis ads, growing up I had a love for penguins. The birds that couldn't fly were very intriguing and whilst they smelt very fishy at the zoo, we'd always go back and see them before we left. This advert is beautiful, not only because the boy has a pet penguin but because we are allowed an insight into a child's imagination and compassion. This advert reminds us of our childhood toys and the minutes, hours, days, months, and years we would spend in the land of make-believe and running back to our bedroom quickly to see if our toys had moved slightly.
The Long Wait
The Second of my John Lewis Christmas Adverts dates back to 2011 when a little is eagerly counting down to Christmas day. I won't spoil the ending for you if you haven't seen it please do. When 'For gifts, you cannot wait to give' I am in tears, without fail, happy tears. This advert is the first emotional cracker of an advert that set the bar for all other Christmas Adverts and began the John Lewis Christmas Ad legacy and reputation.
Coca-Cola Christmas
Not the Christmas Advert you are thinking of? Whilst this may not pull at your heartstrings as much as the others above, (and I may not actually drink Coca-Cola) I love the creativity and the story-line behind this Christmas advert. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before, the first little Christmas movie lasting just over a minute long, that told a story.
Christmas Trucks
Oh, this was the Coca-Cola ad you were expecting? Of, course this little ad was going to make it into my top 5, it marks the start of the festivities every year. If you turn on your TV and the CoCa-Cola Christmas Trucks are on the screens, then it is a socially acceptable excuse to start being festive, singing carols and decorating your house even if it is only December 1st. The original Trucks date back to 1995 (below), but the most commonly used ad is the one from 1998. In the ad from 1998 when Santa winks a bottle of Coca-cola magically appears in the kid's (who rings the bell and misses the parade) hands.
Here's the 1995 'Original' Coca-cola Trucks Advert:
Well after a few hours narrowing down my top five and crying my eyes at emotional heart-wrenching ads I think I'm going to go sit down and watch a comedy. Let me know in the comments below what your all-time favourite Christmas Adverts are and why?
Did you remember the original Coca-Cola ad? or that the kid magically gets a bottle of Coke? Which one do you prefer?
Thanks for reading, and hoped you didn't cry too much watching the ads.
Remeber to Come Back Tomorrow to Open Another Door on the Blogmas Calendar.
